Yes. Every trip comes on a Ski-Doo 600, and you can upgrade individual sleds to a Ski-Doo Summit 850 on the backcountry rides, the Intro to Snowmobiling course and the Unguided Rental — so one group can mix both. Upgrade pricing is shown at booking.

Season & Schedule
Our 2026–27 season runs daily from December 15 to March 15, seven days a week, all from RMSR Basecamp. Early- and late-season trips depend on snow conditions — check our live snow and trail report or give us a call.
The same schedule runs every day of the season:
- State Parks Trail Tour: 9:00 AM–11:00 AM or 2:00 PM–4:00 PM
- Continental Divide Trail Tour: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM or 12:00 PM–4:00 PM
- Backcountry Ride, Half Day: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM
- Backcountry Ride, Full Day: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM (plan on an 8-hour day with check-in and prep)
- Intro to Snowmobiling: Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM both days (one course per weekend)
Check in 30–45 minutes before your departure time. That covers gear fitting, paperwork and the safety briefing. Arriving late may be treated as a no-show, and no-shows and late arrivals are not refunded.
Age, License & Experience
Drivers must be 16 or older and hold a valid driver's license. Riders under 18 also need a parent or legal guardian to sign their waiver.
No. Every trip is one rider per snowmobile, so each person drives their own sled. Since drivers must be 16 or older with a valid license, we're not able to take younger children.
Not for our guided trips. The State Parks and Continental Divide trail tours suit all skill levels, and your guide gives a full safety briefing and riding instruction before you head out. Brand new to sleds? The 2-day Intro to Snowmobiling course is built for you. The Unguided Rental is the exception: it's for intermediate and expert riders with a plan, riding partners and the right gear.
Yes. Every rider signs their own assumption of risk and rental agreement before riding, and riders under 18 also need a parent or guardian signature. Completing it online before you arrive keeps check-in quick.
Gear & What to Wear
Every trip includes the sled and fuel, a helmet, boots, and a snow bib or monosuit. Guided trips also include your guide; the Unguided Rental includes one tank of fuel.
Dress in layers for a full day in the mountains and bring:
- Goggles and two pairs of waterproof gloves
- A warm, waterproof ski jacket or winter coat
- A non-cotton base layer and a fleece mid layer
- Wool socks, a beanie, and a balaclava or buff
- Sunglasses and sunscreen
- Snacks and water
- Your valid driver's license
Leave long scarves and other loose clothing at home — they can catch in moving parts.
Well-maintained Ski-Doo mountain sleds set up for Colorado's deep powder. Every trip comes on a 2024-or-newer Ski-Doo 600, and you can upgrade to a 2023-or-newer Ski-Doo Summit 850 on the backcountry rides, the Intro to Snowmobiling course and the Unguided Rental.
Cancellations, Weather & Changes
Every booking includes our Standard policy: cancel 7 or more days before your ride for a full refund or a free reschedule. After that, there's no refund. For more flexibility, add Flex Booking (below) when you book. Full details are on our Booking & Cancellation Policy page.
Flex Booking is an optional upgrade, priced at checkout, that moves your refund and free-reschedule window to 48 hours before the ride. It must be added when you book, can't be added later, and is only offered on bookings made more than 48 hours ahead. The Flex fee is non-refundable unless we cancel.
We ride in a wide range of winter conditions. If we cancel or shorten a ride before it starts because of weather, avalanche danger, snow or trail conditions, or any other safety reason, you choose: a full refund — including any Flex Booking and Protection Plus fees — or a free reschedule.
Inside your refund window (7+ days out, or 48+ hours with Flex Booking), you can remove riders and be refunded as long as the group stays at or above the booking minimum. Outside the window, riders who drop out or don't show aren't refunded. You can always substitute a replacement rider, as long as they sign their own waiver and meet our rider requirements.
No — rides you choose to end early aren't refunded.
Damage Protection & Payment
Yes. A credit card is required for every sled. With our included Standard protection, we place a $500 authorization hold per sled at check-in and release it after the post-ride inspection if there's no damage. The most you'll pay for damage to a sled is $1,500. Debit cards aren't accepted for holds.
Protection Plus is optional damage protection, priced per sled, per day and added at checkout. There's no authorization hold — your card stays on file — and the most you'll pay for damage to a sled drops to $500. It's non-refundable once the ride begins.
The maximum covers everything for the sled: repair parts and labor, transport to the shop, recovery, and loss of use. We inspect and photograph every sled before and after the ride, and any charge comes with an itemized invoice and photos. The maximum doesn't apply — and you're responsible for the full cost — if damage results from riding under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or drugs; ignoring guide direction; riding on lakes, in restricted areas or off the guide's route; an unauthorized operator or more than one person on the sled; or reckless riding or excessive speed. Damage protection covers our sled only; it isn't insurance and doesn't cover injuries or other property.
Unguided Rentals
Unguided rentals are for intermediate and expert riders who bring experience, a plan, riding partners and the right gear. Drivers must be 16 or older with a valid driver's license. We won't rent to unqualified riders heading solo into the backcountry.
Your rental comes with one tank of fuel. Refueling happens at RMSR Basecamp only.
We operate in the Routt National Forest under a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Snowmobiles are not allowed on any lakes, in Wilderness Areas or National Parks, or on public highways. Riding under the influence of alcohol or marijuana is prohibited, and harassing wildlife is illegal in Colorado.
Photos & Add-Ons
Yes, two ways. The Action Camera Package gives you an action camera, helmet mount, spare battery and a memory card you keep. On guided trips, the Action Photo Package has your guide photograph the group when it's safe, with photos sent by download link within 48 hours. Add either at checkout or at check-in; current pricing is shown in the booking system.
